If you’re looking for a summer Midwest lake getaway that’s perfect for families, Table Rock Lake in Missouri is one of those places that completely surprised us—in the best way. We visited Table Rock Lake in July 2024 with our family of 7, including kids ages 3, 5, 7, 9, 10.
With clear water, endless boating, and space for big families to spread out, it’s the kind of trip where kids can be outside all day and parents can actually relax.
We spent our days on the water, exploring, and just enjoying slower summer rhythms—and it ended up being one of our favorite lake vacations we’ve taken as a family.

Sample 4–5 Day Table Rock Lake Itinerary
If you’re wondering how to structure your trip, here’s what our days looked like—and honestly, this kind of trip works best when you keep things flexible and not overly planned.
Day 1: Travel + St. Louis Stop
We broke up the drive with a stop in St. Louis for lunch and a quick visit to the Gateway Arch. It was the perfect way to let the kids stretch their legs before finishing the drive.
We arrived at Table Rock Lake around 7 pm, settled in, and kept the evening simple.
Lake Days (The Best Part 🚤)
We rented a boat for four days, and this ended up being the highlight of the entire trip.
Most days looked like:
- Morning pickleball games for the adults at the resort
- Heading out on the boat for tubing, swimming, cliff jumping at the designated cliff and exploring coves
- Floating, relaxing, and spending hours on the water
When we weren’t boating, we kept things easy with:
- Swimming off the dock
- Kayaking
- Pool time at the resort
- Letting the kids just play and be outside
👉 This is truly the kind of trip where less planning = more fun.
One Night Out: Top of the Rock 🌅
One evening, we headed to Top of the Rock for a golf cart ride through caves, waterfalls, and scenic overlooks.
We timed it for sunset and stayed for dinner—it ended up being one of the most memorable nights of the trip.
Branson Afternoon + Lunch 🎭
We spent one afternoon in Branson for lunch and a change of pace.
It was a nice break from the lake and gave us a chance to explore a bit before heading back for more lake time.
Fourth of July at the Pool 🎆
One of the highlights of the trip was spending the Fourth of July at the resort.
They had a pool party with pizza, music, and fireworks right at the pool—it was such a fun and easy way to celebrate with the kids.
Final Day: Head Home + Springfield Stop
On the way home, we stopped in Springfield to visit Bass Pro Shops and the Wonders of Wildlife Museum.
It was a really fun stop (especially with kids) and a great way to break up the drive.
👉 Overall, this trip was all about slow mornings, full days on the water, and just enough outings to mix things up—which is exactly what made it so relaxing.
What to Do at Table Rock Lake
Boat Days (Our Favorite Part)
Most of our trip revolved around being on the water—and honestly, that’s what makes this trip.
We rented a 24′ 250hp tri-toon (seating 15 passengers) through Serenity Shores and spent full days:
- Tubing
- Swimming
- Exploring coves
- Just floating and relaxing
👉 If you do one thing—rent a boat. It completely makes the trip.

Swimming + Lake Time
The water here is incredibly clear, which makes swimming even better.
The kids loved:
- Jumping off the boat
- Floating in calmer coves
- Playing and kayaking near the dock

Fishing
Fishing is huge here, especially for bass.
Even if you’re not super into fishing, it’s a fun activity for kids to try.

Community + Downtime Fun
One of the best parts of this trip was how easy it was to fill downtime.
We rotated between:
- Pool and Splash pad
- Mini golf, shuffleboard
- Pickleball, Basketball
- Game room
- Playing outside at the house

Where to Eat
We mostly kept things simple this trip—which worked really well with a big group.
- Groceries + eating in for breakfasts and some dinners
- Easy lunches between lake time
- A few casual meals out
👉 This helped keep things more budget-friendly and less stressful.
